Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes dropped a spot in the most recent AP top-25 from 5 to 6. This was not due to the Hurricanes’ performance on Friday in a 33-20 win at Wake Forest. This drop in the polls came from a strong rise in the rankings of Ole Miss following their win against LSU and Lane Kiffin in the Rebels’ SEC home opener. The Rebels jumped from #8 last week all the way up to #4 this week. Along with Miami, Indiana and Ohio State dropped spots, allowing the Rebels to rise. LSU also dropped 3 spots to #10 this week following the loss to Ole Miss.
A quick aside about how the AP poll works that frustrates me. The #8 team in the country beat the #7 team in the country at home by one possession, and that result led voters to believe that they are now 6 spots apart because of that result? The same argument/thought process applies to last week’s strong shift from Texas-Ohio State: a 1-point difference led to them being 5 spots apart in last week’s rankings, now 6.
