Byron Donalds blasts ‘political hack’ Stephen Colbert for playing in Texas Primary

U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds is ripping a network talk show host for interviewing a candidate in the Texas Democratic Primary for Senate, and then blaming President Donald Trump for CBS refusing to broadcast the alleged violation of the Federal Communications Commission’s Equal Time Rule.

“This is Stephen Colbert trying to put his thumb on a scale for his preferred candidate. And because of the timetable between now and the Texas primaries, he can’t do it. So he’s got nobody to blame but himself. And once again, his credibility is shot,” Donalds said, regarding Colbert’s decision to interview Tom Talarico this week, a segment that aired on YouTube ultimately.

Donalds went on to acknowledge the irony of arguing the case for a frequent foil in the House, who is also in the Primary.

“I’ve never been somebody taking up a cause for Jasmine Crockett, not something I’m totally interested in doing, but you gotta follow the law. He has a responsibility to do that. And to try to blame the Trump administration thinking you’re going to get away with it, I mean, that’s just ridiculous, but this is the mindset of Democrats today. If things aren’t going your way, try to blame Donald Trump and hopefully everybody tries to give you a pass. But he got caught.”

Donalds made the comments on The Evening Edit.
