With no challengers, Shevrin Jones crosses $250K raised this cycle to defend SD 34 seat

Miami Gardens Democratic Sen. Shevrin Jones has raised more than a quarter of a million dollars this cycle to defend his Senate District 34 seat, despite still running unopposed.

Between Jan. 1 and March 31, Jones added another $71,500 to his war chest through his campaign account and political committee, Florida Strong Finish.

The haul brought his total gains to nearly $255,000. He entered April with $15,000 on hand.

Jones’ biggest donors last quarter were Publix and U.S. Sugar Corp., which each gave $10,000.

He received $7,500 from FAIA PAC, which represents the Florida Association of Insurance Agents, and billionaire Stephen Ross’ Palm Beach-based real estate development firm, Related Ross.

Ross owns the Miami Dolphins and the NFL team’s home at Hard Rock Stadium, located in SD 34.

Jones also got $5,000 apiece from Associated Industries of Florida, Universal Orlando, Florida Justice PC, which represents the Florida Justice Association, and the Florida political arm of the League of Credit Unions and Affiliates.

Visa and for-profit prison company The GEO Group each gave $2,500.

Jones spent more than $68,000 in the first quarter of 2026, a large chunk of which — $41,000 — paid for mail media consulting from Christian Ulvert’s EDGE Communications, Michael Worley’s MDW Communications, Notion Motion LLC, CN2 Strategies and Cypher Studios.

The rest covered advertising, web fees, banking and donation-processing fees, travel, food and a $6,000 contribution to The Collective PAC, a Washington, D.C., organization whose stated goal is “to build Black political power … through educating and equipping voters, donors and candidates.”

Jones, who urged Gov. Ron DeSantis early this month to add gas price relief to the list of Special Session issues, passed several notable bills this year. Those included measures to strengthen education and pain treatment for sickle-cell disease, enhance screenings for employees at residential facilities and adult day training programs, create a new “blue envelope” program to improve police interactions with people on the autism spectrum, and an education reform package that includes a teacher mentorship program Jones championed.

In February, Jones’ Democratic Senate peers elected him to lead them in the chamber during the 2028-2030 term.

SD 34 covers a large portion of northeast Miami-Dade County, including the municipalities of Bay Harbor Islands, Miami Beach, Miami Gardens, North Miami, North Miami Beach and Opa-locka.
