U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace has officially submitted a resolution to expel U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, following her earlier call for his censure several months ago.
“The swamp has protected Cory Mills for far too long, and we are done letting it slide. We tried to censure him and strip him of his Committee assignments. Both parties blocked it, but we are not backing down,” Mace, a South Carolina Republican, said.
“The evidence against Mills is overwhelming: beating women and telling them to lie about it, cyberstalking women, lying about his military service, and profiting off his seat. Any Member who votes to keep him here is voting to protect a woman-beater and a fraud. He needs to be expelled immediately.”
The move comes as House members push to “clean house” and drive out several individuals facing sexual misconduct allegations. In particular, some Republican women in the U.S. House have called for accountability for Mills, a New Smyrna Beach Republican, amid a House Ethics Committee investigation for alleged domestic violence and threatening to release intimate images of an ex-girlfriend.
In November, Mace introduced a resolution on the House floor to censure Mills, who is also under investigation for allegedly profiting from defense contracts while in Congress and exaggerating his military record. A House Committee is currently reviewing the case, but it is unclear how long the investigation will take.
However, the House ultimately decided to refer the allegations to the House Ethics Committee instead.
Of note, the House Ethics Committee is also investigating Mace for accusations that she accepted reimbursements from the House for expenses that should not have been covered. She has called the accusations unfounded and from an unreliable source, her former fiancé. NOTUS reports that Mills may be drafting an expulsion resolution for Mace.
Mace suggested online that Mills’ actions were in retaliation.
“Because I will not back down from exposing him, he is trying to expel me,” she posted on X. “This is the same person who protected Ilhan Omar when we tried to censure her. The same person who got married in a mosque where 9/11 was planned. The same person who, when questioned by police about bruises on a woman, tried to call Pam Bondi.”
Mills did not respond to several direct messages on Monday.
He did respond to Mace on X.
“Nancy wants you to believe she’s fighting for you, but she’s not. One minute she’s MAGA, the next she isn’t. Nancy Mace is a hypocrite who abuses her power and is an opportunist. She even attacked (President Donald Trump),” he posted. “Call my vote forward, Nancy!”
Two members of Congress, Democratic U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell of California and Tony Gonzales of Texas, resigned last week amid sexual misconduct investigations. Meanwhile, the House Ethics Committee is holding a sanctioning hearing on Tuesday after finding U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, a Miramar Democrat, guilty of 25 charges she violated House rules and ethics, and she could be expelled later this week.
