A leadership committee associated with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries continues to commit resources to Florida, betting that the state’s aggressive redistricting will lead to pickup opportunities in November.
The House Majority PAC will fund a second round of TV and digital buys in the state. A spokesperson says the commitments show Democrats on “offense.”
The new money comes after a $20 million initial commitment to the state.
The latest buys target Miami and West Palm Beach.
In Miami, the PAC reserved another $1.7 million in English language buys. This brings the total to $8.5 million.
Spanish-language buys are also on the menu. Another $557,500 pushes the total over $2.8 million.
In West Palm Beach, $2.325 million will be spent on English-language ads and $294,000 on Spanish.
Democrats may be best positioned to win a seat that Donald Trump carried in 2024 in the coastal Florida’s 25th Congressional District, where moderate Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz is among the candidates. Moskowitz supports Israel and managed Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Division of Emergency Management. The district spans both media markets targeted with the latest buy.
Jeffries and DeSantis exchanged words around the time the redistricting map was passed. Jeffries decried the effort as a “dummymander.”
The map lowered the number of seats that lean Democratic from eight to four, at least based on the 2024 Presidential Election results. To put that number in perspective, Florida has 28 seats in the House.
