Carrick’s Next Steps: Djemba-Djemba Urges Manchester United to Sign Elite Striker

Michael Carrick gets ready for a huge summer of transfers with Manchester United

Evaluating the Overhaul: Djemba-Djemba on Manchester United Hits, Misses, and Crucial Next Moves

As Manchester United closes the chapter on a transformative Premier League campaign and prepares for another critical summer transfer window, former midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba has offered his perspective on the club’s squad evolution. His assessment covers a stellar debut campaign for a new fan favorite, the dilemma surrounding a returning loanee, and the missing puzzle piece needed to elevate the squad.

The Mbeumo Masterclass and The Onana Conundrum

Reflecting on the transfer business from last year, Djemba-Djemba was full of praise for right winger Bryan Mbeumo, whose joint-top-scoring efforts heavily contributed to United’s third-place finish and Champions League return.

Djemba-Djemba said to BetVictor: “Bryan Mbeumo adapted very quickly to Manchester United. He is a quiet person who works hard, runs for the team and always wants to help his teammates. He has been a very, very good signing for Manchester United and I hope he stays there for a long time.”

However, while Mbeumo’s arrival was a resounding success, goalkeeper Andre Onana’s trajectory took a different turn.Following high-profile struggles, Onana spent the season out on loan at Trabzonspor, leaving his long-term future at Old Trafford up in the air.

Djemba-Djemba said: “Andre Onana is not a bad goalkeeper at all, but he arrived at Manchester United during a very difficult period. One mistake became two mistakes and then confidence disappears. In England, once the criticism starts, it becomes very difficult for goalkeepers. He went out on loan and did well, but now the second goalkeeper has performed strongly and helped the team reach the Champions League. If Onana comes back now and sits on the bench, the atmosphere becomes difficult for everybody. For me, the best thing for him is probably a transfer so he can rebuild his confidence.”

The Ultimate Target: Securing Harry Kane

Looking ahead to this summer’s transfer goals under manager Michael Carrick, the Cameroonian believes United must shift their focus to the focal point of their attack. For Djemba-Djemba, there is only one world-class striker who can fully unlock the club’s silverware ambitions.

Djemba-Djemba said: “Manchester United definitely need another striker. For me, Harry Kane would be perfect for Manchester United. He would be unbelievable there. I do not know if Bayern Munich would let him leave or if he would want to leave, but for me he would be the ideal striker for Manchester United.”

With the foundations of a Champions League-caliber squad falling into place, resolving the goalkeeping puzzle and landing a elite goalscorer remain the defining tasks of the summer.
