Buccaneers hit with injury bug

BUCCANEERS

Another Loss, Another Setback for Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers walked out of Sunday’s 17‑14 defeat to the Green Bay Packers with more than frustration over an 0‑4 start. Two defensive injuries added fresh problems to a roster already stretched thin. With Dallas arriving in just three days, the timing could not be worse for a team desperate to stabilize.

The loss itself stung, but the personnel hits may linger longer than the scoreboard.

Dennis Goes Down With an Ankle Injury

Linebacker SirVocea Dennis, a key special teams contributor, exited the game more than halfway through the contest after suffering an ankle injury. He was ruled out and did not return, leaving Christian Rozeboom and Josiah Trotter to handle the remaining linebacker duties.

With a Thursday night game looming, Tampa Bay has almost no recovery window. Dennis’ availability will depend on how quickly the ankle responds, and the team will be forced to monitor him closely.

Winfield’s Oblique Injury Raises Alarm

The bigger concern is Antoine Winfield Jr., one of the most important players on the roster. Winfield left late in the game, and Todd Bowles described the issue as an oblique injury afterward. Any missed time would be a major blow to a defense already dealing with depth issues and inconsistent play.

Winfield is a cornerstone of Tampa Bay’s secondary, a tone‑setter whose absence would dramatically change how the Buccaneers defend Dallas’ passing attack.

Safety Depth Already Thin

Tampa Bay entered the season with only three safeties on the initial 53‑man roster. The team signed Ifeatu Melifonwu before Sunday’s game, giving them four options, but the depth remains razor‑thin.

Tykee Smith starts alongside Winfield, Miles Killebrew is primarily a special teams piece, and Melifonwu becomes the next man up if Winfield cannot go. On a short week, that is a tough scenario for any defense.

Bowles to Provide Updates Monday

Todd Bowles is scheduled to speak Monday afternoon, offering the next round of clarity on both injuries. Winfield’s status will dominate the conversation, especially with Dallas on deck and Tampa Bay still searching for its first win of the season.

At 0‑4, the Buccaneers cannot afford another major setback. Losing a starting safety would make Thursday’s challenge even steeper.
