Another elected official in Fort Lauderdale is getting behind Democrat Michael Ferguson as he runs to flip Broward’s only Republican-held legislative seat.
Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Steve Glassman is endorsing Ferguson in his campaign for House District 100, citing the Air Force veteran and lawyer’s background in public service and accountability.
“Michael Ferguson brings a strong sense of service, professionalism, and accountability to this race,” Glassman said.
“His background as a veteran and prosecutor reflects a proven commitment to protecting and serving others, and I believe he’ll bring that same dedication to Tallahassee while fighting to lower costs and improve quality of life. I’m proud to endorse Michael for the Florida House because Broward deserves leadership that delivers solutions for our residents and families.”
Glassman joins fellow Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Ben Sorensen among Ferguson’s backers. Others supporting Ferguson include Sens. Shevrin Jones and Tina Polsky, Reps. Emily Gregory and Mitch Rosenwald, Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor, Broward Property Appraiser Marty Kiar, Broward School Board Chair Sarah Leonardi, Deerfield Beach City Commissioner Ben Preston — Ferguson’s former Cardinal Gibbons High School coach — and VoteVets.
Ferguson said he is “honored” to have Glassman’s support.
“Steve has spent years serving the people of Fort Lauderdale with integrity and compassion,” Ferguson said. “I’m grateful for his confidence in our campaign and our vision for Broward’s future.”
A Lauderdale-by-the-Sea resident, Ferguson has served as both a prosecutor and defense lawyer in serious criminal cases and was selected as one of the youngest Special Trial Counsel in Air Force history.
Today, he works at Krupnick Campbell P.A. and has been recognized as one of the National Trial Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40” in Florida.
He is the only Democrat running for HD 100, a coastal Broward district stretching from Fort Lauderdale to Deerfield Beach.
Republicans in the race include Yoni Anijar, Raul Gallon, Eric Stelnicki and Christopher Vincent.
The seat is open; Republican incumbent Chip LaMarca must leave office this year due to term limits.
The Primary is Aug. 18, followed by the General Election on Nov. 3.
