Anne Gerwig earns Florida League of Cities nod for home rule defense

‘Knowing how the legislation we pass affects Wellington, Greenacres and Royal Palm Beach has made me a better legislator.’

Rep. Anne Gerwig has been recognized with a 2026 Legislative Appreciation Award from the Florida League of Cities (FLC) for her work during the 2026 Legislative Session to defend the local decision-making authority of Florida’s municipalities.

The League hands out the award each year to lawmakers who “consistently championed” the organization and its members. According to the FLC, recipients are recognized for steadfast support of the League’s policy platform, for proposing amendments to avoid preemption and unfunded mandates, and for “quietly building support for local self-governance.”

Gerwig represents House District 93. She was elected to the House in 2024 after serving six years as a Councilwoman and eight years as Mayor of the Village of Wellington — that’s 14 years in local government before making the jump to Tallahassee.

In a statement, the Representative tied the award to a productive Session and to her municipal roots.

“This year, I was honored to successfully pass three pieces of legislation: HB 561 (Educator Preparation and Certification); HB 1347 (Clinical Laboratory Personnel); and HB 4033 (Family childcare homes in Palm Beach County),” Gerwig said.

“Each of these bills reflects a commitment to practical solutions that strengthen our workforce, improve health, and address local needs. My experience in local government has greatly influenced how I serve District 93. Knowing how the legislation we pass affects Wellington, Greenacres and Royal Palm Beach has made me a better legislator.”

Founded in 1922, the Florida League of Cities is the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments. The organization promotes local self-government under the banner “Local Voices Making Local Choices,” framing its work around the impact citizens and city leaders have on Florida’s communities.

For Gerwig, the recognition closes a Session that delivered three bills under her name and an early seal of approval from the state’s leading municipal advocacy group on the home rule front.
