Size-inclusive brand Universal Standard has announced its expansion into Nordstrom, launching online and in-store.

As part of the partnership, Nordstrom will now carry a curated selection of Universal Standard’s premium wardrobe staples, including denim, tops, sweaters, trenches, and tees, in sizes 12 through 32 at 20 select locations across the U.S., including The Mall of America in Minneapolis, Michigan Avenue in Chicago, and Alderwood in Lynnwood, Seattle.

“For too long, the fashion industry has been defined by exclusivity, but at Universal Standard, we’re dismantling this outdated norm and democratizing the shopping experience to celebrate all customers, regardless of size,” said Universal Standard co-founder and CEO Polina Veksler.

“I could not be more thrilled to partner with Nordstrom, one of the world’s most well-established retailers, to expand our mission and make exceptional fashion accessible to more shoppers than ever before.” 

The partnership marks a full-circle moment for Universal Standard. When the brand first launched in 2017, Veksler toured the country, hosting size-inclusive styling pop-ups at Nordstrom stores. 

Now, with consistent year-over-year growth and profitability, Universal Standard is taking a significant step forward in wholesale expansion, with upcoming launches at Anthropologie, Macy’s, Wantables, and nearly 50 boutiques nationwide.

Sheep Inc secures £5m seed funding ‘to redefine the future of fashion’

Attracting £5 million in seed funding is a major step and its recipients, the co-founders of Sheep Inc, have equally significant plans for the Series A investment.

For the pioneering fashion brand’s Edzard van der Wyck and Michael Wessely, it “marks a significant step in redefining the future of fashion, driving forward innovation in impact, technology, and regenerative sourcing”.

Already claiming an industry-first, carbon-negative supply chain and known for its premium Merino wool garments, their shared vision is to further “radical transparency and next-generation supply chain technology” and its quest to “challenge industry norms and accelerate the transition toward a truly regenerative fashion ecosystem”.

Under lead investor Inside Out LLC, which encourages innovation and collaboration in fashion, the investment has the potential to scale Sheep Inc’s regenerative supply chain expertise and Connected Dot technology across Inside Out’s broader portfolio, “accelerating change beyond its own brand”.

Van der Wyck and Wessely said Inside Out CEO Suzy Amis Cameron “share[s] our vision for redefining the fashion industry — environmentally, socially, and technologically. This partnership not only fuels our growth but accelerates our ability to set new industry standards. We are inspired by the vision Inside Out is creating and look forward to what we will build together”. 

Amis Cameron added: “Sheep Inc stands at the forefront of responsible fashion. With its pioneering carbon-negative production, regenerative Merino wool, and innovative Connected Dot technology, Sheep Inc is setting a new benchmark for transparency and quality.”

Other key investors are seasoned entrepreneur Erik Stangvik, and former Deloitte Partner Blair Knippel.

Alexandre Arnault nominated to join Moncler’s board of directors

Double R, the holding company owned by Remo Ruffini and a key shareholder in Moncler, has submitted its proposed slate to renew the brand’s board of directors. The list confirms Ruffini’s role as CEO and names Alexandre Arnault as a new board member.

Currently executive vice president of Moët Hennessy, Arnault is the third son of Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH, and is set to replace Carlo Rivetti, the former owner of Stone Island, which Moncler acquired in 2021. Rivetti stepped down from the group in September.

The nomination comes after LVMH took a minority stake in Remo Ruffini’s Double R last year.

The list includes 15 names and will be presented for shareholder approval at the Italian group’s next general meeting, which is scheduled for April 16.

In addition to current board members Marco De Benedetti, Robert Philippe Eggs, Bettina Fetzer, and Luciano Santel, the slate includes Alessandra Gritti, Gabriele Galateri di Genola, Diva Moriani, and Maria Sharapova.

New candidates proposed are Sue Y. Nabi, CEO of Coty; François-Henry Bennahmias, former CEO of Audemars Piguet; and Geoffroy van Raemdonck, CEO of U.S. department store group Neiman Marcus.

Separately, institutional investors have submitted a minority list featuring three candidates: Cesare Conti, Anna Zanardi, and Susanna Dorigoni.

Louis Vuitton jewelry designer Francesca Amfitheatrof quits the brand

In a major surprise, Francesca Amfitheatrof, the acclaimed jewelry designer of Louis Vuitton, has quit the Paris-based luxury house—just six months after Amfitheatrof herself unveiled a new building in central Paris destined to be Louis Vuitton’s jewelry global headquarters.

“I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to create the jewelry and high jewelry collections for Louis Vuitton. After seven wonderful and intense years, I am so proud of these collections and the legacy I leave behind as I embark on exciting new endeavors, which I will be announcing soon,” Amfitheatrof said in a brief statement.

Vuitton declined to comment on the departure of Amfitheatrof, who is very much a superstar designer in the world of fine jewelry. Her tenure at Vuitton has been a huge critical success, like her most recent collection, Damier, inspired by the brand’s famed monogram print. The collection includes a line of checkerboard bracelets and rings, designed in slimline forms with raised centers—surprisingly light and almost snake-like around the wrist.

“We developed one Damier ring a year ago, and people went crazy for it, so I thought, let’s do a whole collection. Sometimes the wisest decisions are right in front of your eyes,” chuckled Amfitheatrof at its launch in the new HQ.

Last year, while in high jewelry, she presented an exceptional new collection entitled “Awakened Hands, Awakened Minds,” inspired by Louis Vuitton’s spirit of travel and the mechanization of railways through interlaced V-shaped links. The collection mirrors the marvels of the Industrial Revolution in a symphony of platinum and yellow gold, diamonds, and golden yellow sapphires.

Amfitheatrof joined Vuitton in April 2018, an appointment that underlined how much Vuitton saw jewelry and watches as major growth areas for the luxury marque. Vuitton had begun inviting scores of major well-heeled clients to exotic locations like Hawaii and Courchevel in the Alps for several days of private viewing and shopping at jewelry galas.

At the time, then CEO Michael Burke noted that Vuitton had amassed a treasure trove of 200 million euros worth of precious stones. Upon her arrival, Vuitton devoted increasing amounts of retail space to her designs in its huge flagship in Place Vendôme, the most important retail center of luxury jewelry on the planet.

Very much a citizen of the world, Francesca Amfitheatrof was born in Tokyo and studied at three London institutions—Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, and the Royal College of Art—yet speaks English with a slight Italian accent. Amfitheatrof’s first silverware collection was presented by Jay Jopling of London’s White Cube gallery in 1993. Her designs have been sold by Colette, Browns of London, Luisa Via Roma in Florence, Jeffreys in New York, and Joyce Hong Kong.

Her most important position prior to Vuitton was leading the jewelry design team at Tiffany, where, in 2013, she became the first woman to hold that position. Amfitheatrof quit that job in January 2018 when Tiffany announced that Reed Krakoff had been named the brand’s artistic director.

Previously, she had been a senior jewelry designer for UK royal jeweler Asprey & Garrard and designed for Chanel, Balenciaga, Fendi, and Marni. She also spent three years as curator of the Gucci Museo in Florence.

While at Tiffany, she developed a partnership with fashion-forward retailer Dover Street Market and featured Lady Gaga in the brand’s advertising campaigns, seen in a Super Bowl commercial.

During her time at Vuitton, Amfitheatrof continued to design for other brands. Earlier this month, her Instagram account featured a post of A$AP Rocky “wearing Psyche and Cupid, my first necklace for Maison Codognato,” the legendary Venetian jewelry brand.
