Miami Holds No. 1 as Every Other Team Moves in Latest AP Top 25
Miami remains No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 released Sunday, October 25, 2026, and the Hurricanes stand alone in one important respect: They are the only team that held its position in this week’s rankings. Every other ranked team changed places during another major reshuffling.
The Hurricanes strengthened their grip on the top spot after beating Pittsburgh 52-23. Miami received 59 of the 70 first-place votes, an increase of 19 from the previous week. Ohio State received 10 first-place votes, while Utah collected the remaining vote.
Miami is now 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Its victory over Pitt provided a convincing response in the Hurricanes’ first game as the nation’s top-ranked team since the 2002 season.
Miami Adds Support While Contenders Shuffle
The Hurricanes did more than protect their ranking. They gained a larger share of support from the media panel as other contenders stumbled.
Miami’s 59 first-place votes represent a clear majority of the 70 ballots. With Ohio State and Utah the only other teams receiving first-place support, the Hurricanes emerged from the weekend with a firmer position atop the poll.
The win also ended a recent pattern of trouble for the nation’s No. 1 team. Before Miami took over, Texas lost to Oklahoma and Georgia fell to Auburn while holding the top ranking. The Hurricanes avoided a similar result with their decisive victory over Pitt.
Ohio State Climbs to No. 2 as BYU Falls
Ohio State moved from No. 3 to No. 2 despite having the weekend off. BYU’s loss at UCF opened the door for the Buckeyes and sent the Cougars down six places to No. 8.
Georgia is No. 3, followed by Indiana at No. 4 and Notre Dame at No. 5. Utah climbed to sixth, with UCLA seventh. Kentucky and Alabama round out the top 10 behind BYU.
Indiana’s move places the Hoosiers ahead of Notre Dame in the latest rankings. Indiana is 7-1, while the Fighting Irish are 6-1. Utah and UCLA join Miami with unbeaten 7-0 records.
Florida, SMU and Wisconsin Among the Ranked Teams
Florida checks in at No. 17, giving the state another ranked program behind top-ranked Miami. SMU is No. 19, followed by Boise State and Northwestern in a tie for No. 20.
That tie means there is no separately ranked No. 21 team. Arizona follows at No. 22, with Missouri, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin completing the poll.
Iowa, New Mexico, Cincinnati, Oregon State, South Carolina, Minnesota, USC, UTSA and Virginia Tech were among the teams receiving votes outside the Top 25.
