Macy’s Inc. announced on Friday the appointment of Barbie Cameron to the role of chief stores officer of Macy’s, effective February 16.

In this role, Carman will lead the store operations across Macy’s, including flagships, small format stores and its call center operations. The executive will helm initiatives to modernize Macy’s, improve the shopping environment and elevate the customer and colleague experience, as outlined in the company’s three-year ‘Bold New Chapter’ strategy.

She will report to Adrian Mitchell, chief operating officer and chief financial officer, Macy’s, Inc.

A Macy’s veteran, Cameron started her career at Macy’s as a sales manager and quickly advanced to store manager. She has held numerous leadership positions across Macy’s, including roles in merchandising execution and buying. In 2020, she was named senior vice president and regional director, east region, and had been the interim chief stores officer since August.

“Barbie is an experienced retailer and has built a strong track record during her 37-year career at Macy’s,” said Mitchell.

“I am confident that her deep understanding of our customer will continue to drive the Bold New Chapter strategy forward by improving in-store experiences and modernizing Macy’s for today’s consumer. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Barbie and our talented team of store leaders and colleagues.”

Last month, Macy’s Inc. issued a downbeat outlook for sales in its current quarter, a sign that executives might have been too optimistic about their expectations for a solid holiday shopping season.

The American department-store operator said at the time of reporting in January that it’s forecasting net sales in the current quarter to be at or slightly below the $7.8 billion to $8 billion executives were expecting as of last month.
