Local and state leaders back Joshua Simmons for Coral Springs Mayor

Joshua Simmons, a Coral Springs Commissioner running for Mayor, has rolled out a slate of endorsements spanning state, county, School Board, and municipal officials from across South Florida, led by Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor.

The endorsements reflect the regional coalition Simmons has built through his work on the City Commission, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the National League of Cities.

Joining Pryor are Senate Democratic Leader-designate Shevrin Jones; Reps. Ashley Gantt and Michele Rayner; Palm Beach County Commissioner Bobby Powell; Broward County School Board Chair Sarah Leonardi, Vice Chair Jeff Holness, and Member Rebecca Thompson; Sunrise Deputy Mayor Jacqueline Guzman; Plantation Councilmember Jennifer Andreu; Tamarac Commissioner Morey Wright; Margate Commissioner Antonio Arserio; Lauderhill Commissioner Melissa Dunn; Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Ben Sorensen; and Pembroke Pines Vice Mayor Michael Hernandez.

“Joshua Simmons is the kind of leader Coral Springs needs and the kind of partner the rest of Broward County has come to rely on,” Pryor said. “He has built a record on the City Commission centered on public safety, strong neighborhoods, and effective governance. Joshua brings people together to solve problems, and he is exactly the kind of mayor Coral Springs deserves.”

Simmons was first elected to the City Commission in 2018 as the city’s first Black Commissioner.

He chairs the National League of Cities’ Federal Advocacy Committee for Transportation and Infrastructure Services and spent seven years on the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, where he helped secure nearly $10 million in transportation funding for Coral Springs. He has helped bring more than $50 million in outside investment to city projects during his tenure.

“I am deeply humbled to have the support of so many leaders who have spent their careers serving the people of Broward and beyond,” Simmons said.

“Their confidence in our campaign reflects the kind of collaborative, regional leadership Coral Springs needs from its next Mayor. Local government works best when our city works with our partners at the school district, the county, the legislature, and the cities around us. With this team behind us, I’m more energized than ever to keep delivering for our neighborhoods and to build a Coral Springs that continues to set the standard for what a well-run city looks like.”

A former teacher and mental health professional, Simmons lives in Coral Springs with his wife, Cheyenne, and their three children.

His campaign is focused on keeping Coral Springs affordable for families and seniors, protecting taxpayer dollars through disciplined budgeting, planning for sustainable growth, fully funding the police and fire departments, and advocating for the city at every level of government. Simmons faces incumbent Mayor Scott Brook in the Nov. 3 election.
