We had a tough day at Saratoga on Saturday, when finding the winner circle with our top picks was a difficult task. Our P5 ticket had winners scattered throughout the sequence, but we did not connect often enough to cash. Here is how the sequence did.
Race 8
Neither pick fired for us, but we did have the winner #2 Crossover Capital covered in our P5 ticket.
Race 9: The Grade 1 Vanderbilt
A great edition of The Vanderbilt, which was a return to glory for #8 Built. Our pick #1 Damon’s Mound got to the front as expected, but was run down at the wire by the winner and finished 3rd. Our P5 ticket is gone, as we also had a scratch (#4 Just Beat the Odds) to leave us with only 2 runners in this leg.
Race 10
We loved the #3 La Rascasse, for our fave young and upcoming trainer William Walden, who scratched this runner from the field. We will follow this filly to see where she lands next. Our remaining pick #8 Zany finished 4th, but we did have the winner #1 Counting Stars on the ticket.
Race 11
No glory here as well, as our picks #7 Dancingwithdestiny and #9 She’s Our Tiz finished 4th and 5th. The winner was #13 Oklahoma Smoke, who came in off the AE list, and was discussed as a possible winner on our Saturday Podcast at 12:30, after the scratches came out.
Race 12
A tough way to end the P5 sequence, a Maiden Claiming turf route race. We did have the winner on our ticket, #7 Leave Me, and the P5 paid $461… a chalky outcome.
August 1 Horse Racing Preview: Colonial Downs & Saratoga
This P5 adds to the idea of making a point to view our podcast on Saturday at 12:30, after the scratches come out.
