Let ‘em Run Review of 6/27/26 and Preview of 7/4/26
We had a good weekend with our picks at Churchill Downs, including the winner of The Stephen Foster, where we singled upset winner Magnitude in our P5 sequence. While the sequence did result in a chalky P5 payout, we were on the money with our selections, and just missed with a few longshots, that would have made the payout more enticing.
Churchill Downs – Late P5 Races 8 – 11:
Race 8
The sequence began with the most likely winner, with #6 Alpyland doing what was expected and landed the top spot for a chalky $3.68 payout. Our longshot play at 12-1 ran a good race, and tried to close as expected, but only finished 3rd.
Race 9
Our longshot pick #3 Harrodsburg was 12-1 on the morning line, but went off at 3-1 and paid $8.90 for the gate to wire outcome. The scratch of favorite #2 Cornucopian likely impacted all runner’s odds.
Race 10
We were hoping for a little “chaos” in this race, and we did include the winner #2 Lagynos, who was the post time favorite and payed $5.00 for the 1st place win. Our longshot #1 Silent Heart at 10-1, did what was expected and went to the front, but could not hold off the hard charging winner.
Race 11 – The Stephen Foster Stakes
A small, but quality field lined up for this edition of The Stephen Foster, and post time favorite #3 Sovereignty went of as the choice of bettors. Our pick #5 Magnitude, was a strong pace setter, and finished the job to pay $7.16 for the effort, and put himself in the conversation as the best of the older horses this year.
Race 12
We nailed the exacta here with our two selections, as #9 Tam Tam took the top spot and paid $6.04. Our 2nd choice, #3 East Jabip completed the $33.18 exacta payout.
So the P5 payout resulted in a $308.75 return, and our ticket was $150 to play the P5, with the thought that a couple of longshots would have resulted in a much better payout. All in all, as we say, “ do not look a gift horse in the mouth ” !!
