Italian high-end outerwear specialist Gimo’s Italiana S.p.A., based in Padua, has reacted to the headwinds that, after two years of robust growth, caused a slight revenue slump in 2024 by entering new overseas markets.
“We’re currently generating 80% of our revenue, which last year reached approximately €10 million, outside Italy. Our main markets are Europe, primarily Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium; the USA, which accounts for 20% of international sales; and Korea, where we’re operating three shop-in-shops in retail malls with a local partner, and we’re planning to open another this year and one in 2026,” said Massimo Gerardin, who with his sister Sabrina manages the company founded in 1975 by his parents Renzo and Silvia, speaking to FashionNetwork.com. “Also, with the Fall/Winter 2025-26, we are entering Canada,” he added.
Gimo’s products are commercialised in some 500 multibrand retailers, of which approximately 70 are in Italy, through two proprietary brands: Gimo’s (with men’s and women’s collections) and GMS75 (menswear only). “Gimo’s accounts for 75% of total revenue, with menswear generating an 85% share. GMS75 was created in 2009 as a younger, more directional line. It’s doing very well in Italy and Germany, where it generates up to 50% of our sales,” said Gerardin.
For Fall/Winter 2025-26, the company has expanded the Gimo’s range, introducing a knitwear collection and a leisurewear drop featuring performance trousers and a flannel sweatshirt. Originally a producer of leather and sheepskin garments, in 2009 the company began to make fabric-based items, in some cases produced in-house with hand-dyed yarn, also featuring cutting-edge performance fabrics.
“In addition, to celebrate our 50th anniversary, we have created a special capsule collection in collaboration with Bottoli Tessitura from Padua, the only Italian producer of undyed wool, available only in its natural colour,” said Gerardin. “Using this exclusive material, combined with dyed wool and natural leather, we have created eight items with a sophisticated vintage look,” he concluded.
