Florida stuns Texas in a big win in Austin

Florida’s 24‑Point Rally Silences Austin

In front of more than 100,000 fans at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, Florida delivered one of the season’s biggest shocks, storming back from a 17–3 deficit to defeat No. 7 Texas 27–24. The unranked Gators strung together 24 unanswered points, controlled the second half, and closed out the final minutes with poise that we have not seen in losses to Missouri and South Carolina. The Gators two wins are over a 4th ranked Ole Miss at the time today over 7th ranked Texas.

The Comeback That Changed the Game

Texas opened with two quick scoring drives, building a 17–3 lead midway through the second quarter. Florida responded with a sustained surge, scoring 24 straight points and flipping the momentum entirely. The turning point came in the fourth quarter when Jadan Baugh powered in an 11‑yard touchdown run, giving the Gators a 27–17 advantage and putting pressure squarely on the Longhorns.

Tramell Jones Jr. Steps In and Steps Up

With starting quarterback Aaron Philo sidelined, freshman Tramell Jones Jr. made his first collegiate start in one of the toughest environments in the country. Jones completed 22 of 35 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, both to tight ends Hayden Hansen and Lacota Dippre. He added 41 rushing yards, including the game‑sealing scramble on third‑and‑7 with Texas out of timeouts.

His composure under pressure kept Florida’s offense moving and allowed the Gators to control the clock throughout the second half.

Baugh’s Steady Ground Attack

Running back Jadan Baugh anchored the offense with 91 yards on 25 carries. His physical style wore down the Texas front, and even after a minor mid‑game injury, he returned to help Florida maintain possession and tempo. His fourth‑quarter touchdown capped the comeback and gave Florida the lead it never relinquished.

Arch Manning’s Late Drama Falls Short

Texas quarterback Arch Manning nearly engineered a dramatic comeback. Facing fourth‑and‑7, he connected with Emmett Mosley V on a 62‑yard strike, then found Cam Coleman for a 9‑yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 27–24.

But Florida’s defense delivered the decisive moment. After Texas forced a three‑and‑out, linebacker Myles Graham strip‑sacked Manning, and Kanye Clark recovered the fumble with under two minutes remaining. Jones Jr.’s scramble on third‑and‑7 sealed the victory and sent Florida into victory formation.

What the Win Means for Florida

Florida snapped a two‑game losing streak and earned a signature road victory for head coach Jon Summerall. The Gators enter their Week 8 bye with renewed momentum before facing Georgia on October 31.

For Texas, the loss marks a second straight setback and places their College Football Playoff hopes in jeopardy. The Longhorns managed only one first down for most of the second half, a troubling trend as they move deeper into conference play.
