English soccer legend: Harry Kane can channel inner-Michael Jordan in ‘fascinating’ NFL switch

The debate over the terms ‘soccer’ and ‘football’ will always be a major debate between fans of US Sports and UK Sports – and that won’t slow down anytime soon. But English soccer legend Emile Heskey has green-lit the idea of a world-class soccer star embarking on a career in the gridiron version by stating that Harry Kane could channel his inner-Michael Jordan by agreeing to a place in the NFL.

Kane, who currently turns out for German goliaths Bayern Munich, is one of the best strikers in the world, comfortably marking his place as England’s leading goalscorer and is even up for contention for the Ballon d’Or – cementing his place as one of the best players on the planet.

And, despite reportedly edging closer to a new contract at Bayern Munich, the Tottenham legend has been tipped for a move to the NFL by Heskey, who believes he has what it takes to move over to the States.

Harry Kane move to the NFL would be crazy but fascinating

Speaking via Casinolyze, Heskey said: “Harry Kane in the NFL would be huge for the sport in the UK and also for his brand out there.

I think Johnny Wilkinson came close to making the switch from Rugby. The last person to do something crazy like that was probably Michael Jordan when he went into baseball.

It would be fascinating to see him crossover when he’s done in football to see if it can actually be successful, but he’s got a lot to give in football before that happens.”

Kane is one of the best strikers of a soccer ball in the world, though he is not blessed with any pace and isn’t known for his physicality – so he could become a kicker if the move does transpire. It would be fantastic to see, that’s for sure.

Michael Jordan has set the benchmark for sporting crossovers

It was a while ago now, but Chicago Bulls’ flagship star Michael Jordan shocked the world when he announced his retirement at the end of the Bulls’ first threepeat in 1993, citing a loss of desire for the game.

Amazingly, just four months later, he signed for the Chicago White Sox – a Minor League Baseball team – featuring in 127 games before returning to basketball.

Then, heading back into the NBA, he secured another threepeat for the Bulls, becoming the best-known name in the sport and cementing his hero status in the city.

If Kane does make the switch across the pond, it could rival that – and it would certainly help boost the stature of the NFL in the United Kingdom. Only time will tell…
