DC police wanted to arrest Cory Mills after assault call

New reporting from the Washington Post provides more detail about a police interaction involving a Florida Congressman, with body camera footage offering new narrative.

Per the article published Saturday afternoon, police in D.C. considered arresting U.S. Rep. Cory Mills after they were called on an alleged domestic assault in 2025, but they changed their mind after Mills and the accuse talked.

Body camera footage reviewed by the Post showed the arresting officer, a Richard Mazloom, balking at the decision.

“Unfortunately, I have bosses that are making this into a family disturbance — a domestic disturbance — instead of an actual domestic assault,” Mazloom told the alleged victim.

The footage also shows that investigators had planned to send a transport vehicle to pick up Mills, which ultimately did not happen.

According to a police report previously provided to Florida Politics, police responded to a call from Sarah Raviani, an Iranian American political organizer,at 1:15 a.m. on Feb. 19 alleging an assault in an apartment they shared at the time in Washington. She later chose not to press charges and has criticized the politicization of the incident.

Police also referred the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and no charges were pursued after Raviani withdrew accusations.

Mills has faced external pressure to resign, including in the wake of scandals that that forced U.S. Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales to resign. However, he says his issues are different.

“I don’t even fall into the category of Swalwell and Gonzalez,” he said. ”One, I’m not married, so there’s one thing. Two, I’ve never sexually harassed and or had any complaints by any staffers or interns on the Hill. It’s just not even a fair comparison. This is obviously a political Democrat tit for tat.”

Republicans, including U.S. Reps. Anna Paulina Luna and Kat Cammack, have said House leadership has been protecting Mills from censure in a bid to preserve a tenuous GOP majority.
