Retail parks giant British Land has made two key appoints with Emma Cariaga becoming its new COO and David Lockyer, who as head of development oversees all British Land’s development activity, is taking on additional responsibility for the delivery of its major Thames-side Canada Water project.
Cariaga, who succeeds David Walker following his move to become CFO in November, takes on a wide-ranging role controlling property management, sustainability, digital placemaking, marketing and communications, and commercial finance functions.
Cariaga was previously joint head of Canada Water, the joint venture with AustralianSuper. However, she will continue to lead the 53-acre project’s residential business, which also includes one million sq ft of retail, F&B, culture & leisure uses alongside 12 acres of open space.
Lockyer joined British Land in 2010 and became Head of Development in 2023. He was previously responsible for British Land’s campus assets.
Simon Carter, CEO at British Land, said: “Emma has been instrumental in driving the Canada Water project to this point and will bring her extensive operational and leadership experience to her new role.”
He added: “With the first phase buildings nearing completion, I am delighted that David will be taking on additional responsibility for the project as part of his role as head of development.”
