Angie Nixon loses more ground to Alex Vindman in Democratic Senate fundraising race with $116K Q1

Angie Nixon is struggling to match the fundraising pace of her main opponent in the Democratic Primary race for U.S. Senate.

Nixon, a third-term state legislator from Jacksonville, brought in just under $117,000 from 193 contributions in the first three months of 2026. Over the full campaign, she has raised nearly $196,000 and had just under $178,000 on hand as of the end of last month.

To put those numbers in perspective, Primary opponent Alex Vindman, a former National Security Council whistleblower whose testimony contributed to the first impeachment of President Donald Trump, announced raising $8.2 million in the first quarter of 2026. He closed the quarter with $6.2 million in cash on hand.

Incumbent U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, a Plant City Republican elected twice as Attorney General before being appointed last year to replace now-Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has raised more than $8.4 million this cycle, with $2.6 million in Q1. Her campaign closed March with more than $7.1 million cash on hand.

Nixon, whose record in Tallahassee was characterized by hot quotes and minimal legislative achievement, relied heavily on friends and neighbors for her donations, with 62 donations coming from Jacksonville. Current state and federal legislators did not donate to her campaign, though former House colleague Omari Hardy, who now works in comms in Washington, D.C., did write a check.

Though fundraising isn’t the sole determinant of electoral viability, the profound gap between Nixon and Vindman appears to leave the latter at a political crossroads.

Throughout her time as a legislator, Nixon has mulled running for local office. That option theoretically is open in the 2027 election, with the seat in heavily Democratic City Council District 10 open, as incumbent Ju’Coby Pittman is term-limited. However, former two-term Councilman Reggie Gaffney is running for that seat, and the consensus-building Democratic pragmatist will be supported not only by Pittman, but by Republican power brokers as well.
