The World Cup trophy value is set to pass the $1m barrier for the first time.
Research reveals mega value of World Cup trophy
The World Cup is fast approaching and excitement is at an all-time high as the United States prepare to host the iconic tournament for the first time since 1994.
For many USMNT players, such as Folarin Balogun and Johnny Cardoso who helped fire Atletico Madrid into the Champions League quarter-finals, it’s set to be their first World Cup experience this summer. Including the likes of Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie as well, and Mauricio Pochettino will have a strong squad at his disposal.
While winning the whole thing may be a step too far for this young squad, all eyes will still be on stunning the top nations at this summer’s tournament – which is co-hosted too by Canada and Mexico.
The likes of Spain, France, England, Germany, Portugal, Argentina and Brazil will once again vie for the greatest soccer prize on the planet. And this summer, one of these nations could lift the first-ever World Cup trophy valued over the $1,000,000 barrier. As the value of gold skyrockets to unprecedented levels, the modern version of the trophy has never been worth more.
According to research from Kortio, the leading credit card comparison website, if current trends continue, the value of the trophy come the time the World Cup final takes place, could be worth $1,016,928.
That represents a 685.33% increase in value since the last time the World Cup was staged in America in 1994.
These figures have been adjusted for inflation to take into account the changes in spending power over time, as tracked by the Consumer Price Index.
The World Cup trophy will have never been worth more at this stage in time, with the current design containing 4.927kg of pure gold, which is actually less than you may have expected.
If there was solid gold all the way through, its potential weight would be 63kg and come in at $13,810,187.
Despite the trophy being hollow, the current design is way more valuable than the original Jules Rimet trophy that was replaced in 1974. That trophy was silver with only gold plating.
