Why Is Belichick Not A Hall Of Famer?

There are some questions that need to be answered.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will not be presenting Bill Belichick as one of its newest honorees next July because of pettiness. Belichick was not a jovial individual while being interviewed by pro football writers and was accused of cheating. Spygate, where Patriots employees taped opposing teams run throughs. Belichick was not the first surly coach who was also accused of cheating. There is a long list of paranoid football coaches like George Allen who thought someone was out to get him and hired security. New York Jets coach Walt Michaels in a 1982 playoff run was concerned that Paul Brown, Al Davis and Don Shula, all Hall of Famers,  were somehow spying on his team.

The credibility of the Canton, Ohio shrine is now being questioned. How do you say no to Bill Belichick who won six Super Bowls as a head coach with the New England Patriots franchise and two more as an assistant coach with the New York Giants franchise. Was it because he “cheated” or was it because he didn’t give writers and broadcasters the kind of quotes they needed to make their lives easier? Was it because football executives talked to voters about their dislike of Belichick?  The Hall of Fame sets the rules. “The committee consists of one media representative from each pro football city with two each from Los Angeles and New York, inasmuch as those cities have two teams in the National Football League. A 33rd member is a representative of the Pro Football Writers of America, and there are up to 17 at-large delegates. With the exception of the PFWA representative, who is appointed for a two-year term, all appointments are reviewed annually and approved by the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors.” The Hall needs to overhaul its voting procedures to preserve credibility.
