USF rolls to the top of the American

South Florida delivered a defining performance Wednesday night, rallying from a seven‑point halftime deficit to defeat Wichita State 66–58 inside Charles Koch Arena. The victory, paired with Tulsa’s loss to UAB, pushed the Bulls into sole possession of first place in the American Conference.

After trailing 33–26 at the break, USF dominated the second half, outscoring the Shockers 40–25 and controlling the final 10 minutes with suffocating defense and timely scoring. Wichita State’s 25 second‑half points were the fewest the Bulls have allowed after halftime all season.

The Shockers missed 16 of their final 18 field‑goal attempts as South Florida tightened its grip defensively. The 58 total points were the third‑fewest USF has allowed this year and the lowest surrendered in conference play.

Second‑Half Surge Flips the Game

A Pinion three ignited the Bulls’ comeback midway through the second half. USF tied the game moments later and then surged ahead, never relinquishing the lead again. The Bulls controlled tempo, protected the paint, and forced Wichita State into contested looks throughout the closing stretch.

South Florida held the Shockers to 32 percent shooting from the field and just 21 percent from beyond the arc, eliminating late scoring opportunities and preserving the road advantage.

Nelson and Enis Lead the Charge

Izaiyah Nelson delivered one of the most disruptive two‑way performances of the season, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, and two blocks. His seven steals marked a career high and the most by any Bull in a game this year.

Wes Enis added his first career double‑double, posting 16 points and a career‑best 11 rebounds. Pinion and Brown chipped in eight points each as the Bulls spread production across the lineup.

USF also won the rebounding battle 44–37, including 14 offensive boards that created crucial second‑chance scoring opportunities.
