America’s West Coast Sees Tsunami Impact As Alerts Downgrade

Tsunami waves have crashed on the shorelines of Hawaii, California and Washington after a gargantuan 8.8-magnitude temblor struck Russia’s far eastern coast.

Alerts were set off overnight across the Pacific as coastal regions prepared for impact, with Hawaii bracing to be hit hard. Residents were ordered to evacuate and Hilo International Airport was temporarily closed to facilitate evacuation of Keaukaha.

But, the alert level was downgraded to a tsunami advisory just before 5 AM ET, meaning evacuated residents could return to their homes.

Gov. Josh Green said so far no damage has been recorded as tsunami waves reached Oahu, Hawaii’s most populous island, but it will take hours of observation before authorities can determine whether the event has passed.

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said earlier Wednesday morning while “significant water” was received, no damage has been recorded on Oahu, Hawaii’s most populous island — but but it will take hours to be in the clear.

Meanwhile, on the West Coast of mainland America, shores have seen waves just under 4 feet, and residents are advised to avoid beaches and harbors.

And despite the impact being on the weaker side, Dr. Ariel Cohen, head meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Los Angeles/Oxnard office, advises people to remain vigilant as they “are seeing a lot of surging of the waters, especially along west- and northwest-facing beaches.”

Waves also hit Japan, where nearly 2 million people were asked to evacuate, and Russia’s Kuril Islands in the Pacific.

Soledad O’Brien stopped by “TMZ Live” Monday, still reeling from the loss of her collaborator Rob Reiner and his wife Michele … and Soledad had some choice words for Donald Trump‘s disparaging post about the late actor-director.

Soledad got to know Rob well while co-hosting the 10-part true-crime podcast series, “Who Killed JFK?”

She tells TMZ, Rob was kind to everyone … “The person who was taking in the audio, the person who was shooting, the person who was producing, the person who was helping the person who was producing, the assistants … absolutely the kindest human being.”

In fact, Soledad described Rob and his wife as “two really wonderful, kind people,” making their gruesome deaths all the more heartbreaking.

“It’s so horrific,” Soledad said. “I honestly cannot believe it.”

As we reported … Rob and Michele were found stabbed to death at their Los Angeles home Sunday. The tragic news brought an outpouring of support and condolences from many … except Donald Trump.

POTUS took the opportunity to make it about himself, claiming Rob died “reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”

Soledad called Trump’s response “pathetic, but not surprising.”

But instead of dwelling on Trump’s nastiness, the veteran journalist urged people to remember what kind and talented people Rob and Michele were … and not to waste time with anything ugly that anybody says about them.

CJ Perry says John Cena is a hero in her book after seeing him tap out in his final WWE match … even though his last act didn’t go the way some fans hoped.

The wrestling legend stopped by the office Monday and joined us on “TMZ Live” and we asked her about John ending his iconic WWE career with a disappointing loss to Gunther.

It wasn’t your typical storybook ending, but CJ says she’s got even more respect for John for the way he tapped out after Gunther put him in a sleeper hold.

John’s one of the biggest wrestlers of all time, so it’s easy to think he would win his last match … but CJ explains why losing actually boosts his legacy … at least in her eyes.
