Tracie Davis, Alex Sink back David Jolly for Governor

The surge of endorsements continue for the former Republican.

With former Congressman David Jolly now the presumptive nominee for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, two major names in the party are endorsing him.

Incoming Senate Democratic Leader Tracie Davis and former state Chief Financial Officer and gubernatorial nominee Alex Sink are both on board.

“Across Florida, families are struggling to keep up with the cost of living, find affordable housing, access quality healthcare, and make sure their children have every opportunity to succeed,” Davis said. “David Jolly understands those challenges and is offering serious solutions. He isn’t focused on the political fights that dominate so much of the conversation today. He’s focused on helping people build better lives.”

Davis also stressed Jolly’s ability to unify the state.

“We are living through a time when too many people feel unheard, left behind, or pushed to the margins,” Davis added. “I’ve watched David build relationships and earn support in communities across Florida because he listens first and brings people together around shared values. That’s the kind of leadership our state needs.”

Sink said Jolly would bring accountability and focus on real issues if elected.

“David Jolly is the leader we need to elect as our next governor. He will attack critical problems: the rising cost of housing, high insurance and utility rates, and—most especially—he will confront the corruption rampant in Tallahassee among special interests,” Sink said, lauding Jolly as a potential Governor who would “hold Tallahassee accountable for spending our precious taxpayer dollars.”

Democrat Jerry Demings on Friday suspended his gubernatorial campaign after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. His announcement drew words of support from Democrats and Republicans alike, wishing him a speedy recovery and thanking him for his years of public service as Orange County Mayor. But as the only credible threat to Jolly in the Democratic Primary, Demings’ departure from the race essentially clears the Primary for Jolly.
