Topshop and Topman have arrived in central London department store Liberty and while the dedicated space has been made over in the Topshop style, it still looks very different from the Topshop of old.

Gone are the slightly overcrowded rails and organised chaos that used to characterise its Oxford Circus flagship (that store heaving now been converted into a branch of Ikea).

But it doesn’t look ‘all Liberty’ either. Yes, there’s the Tudor-style Liberty backdrop but paying homage to Topshop’s music-infused heritage, the space has been transformed with an industrial edge, featuring fly-postering installations and stacked speaker walls.

It’s a more upmarket, spacious layout too, despite pricing that’s firmly rooted in the mass market.

The two retailers celebrated the residency’s debut with “an immersive fashion experience”, against sounds by local London talent – Kilimanjaro – who walked the runway in Trafalgar Square for Topshop/Topman’s high-profile comeback catwalk show in August.

Performing live at the event, he wore pieces from an upcoming Topman collection including a football-inspired polo top and tailored trousers.

Guests explored and shopped a curated edit of Topshop and Topman’s latest collection, which includes “bold” tailoring, everyday essentials, and a big focus on denim, including the perennially popular Jamie and Joni jeans.

We’re told the new denim hub “introduces fresh silhouettes that generated excitement on the night”. For women, this includes new skinny fit Dree and straight fit Orson jeans and for men, the Barrel leg jean.

The two retailers said their partnership “represents a powerful meeting of British fashion institutions. By bringing Topshop and Topman into Liberty’s historic retail space, the collaboration blends legacy and innovation, offering a fresh, elevated shopping experience for a new generation of style-conscious consumers”.

Topshop/Topman MD Michelle Wilson added: “Partnering with Liberty is a defining moment for us, marking our return to the forefront of British fashion, and creating the opportunity to reconnect with our customers in a truly inspiring space.”
