Loxahatchee Republican Terri Hasdorff is running in a newly redrawn district spanning much of South Florida.
The business owner and former Capitol Hill staffer hopes to net Republicans a seat this November running in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, a district with no incumbent. It spans from Marco Island on the Gulf coast to Westlake and Wellington in Broward County.
“Florida has a unique opportunity to help change the course of our nation by electing new conservative leaders to Congress,” Hasdorff said.
“The possibility of adding as many as four new Republican seats could prove decisive in protecting the House majority and advancing President Trump’s America First policies. That means creating an economy where small businesses, farmers, and working families can thrive.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis in May signed a new congressional map where 24 of 28 congressional districts have a majority of voters who supported President Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Hasdorff notably ran for Congress previously in Alabama in 2020, according to Ballotpedia, where she lost in a Republican Primary.
More recently, she for years has been the president of Wellington-based Capitol Solutions Consulting. She served as Executive Chair of the Republican Women’s Federal Forum.
She spent the 1990s and early 2000s in Washington, including work on the hill as Deputy Director at the House Republican Conference and in the White House as director of the Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives during President George W. Bush’s administration.
“Everything you’ve heard about Washington is true. It is a swamp, and it still needs draining. Years of reckless spending have made life less affordable for hardworking families. By cutting wasteful government spending, we can strengthen the dollar and help Americans keep more of what they earn,” she said.
“Strengthening our national security, securing our borders, and fighting the flow of deadly drugs into our communities must remain top priorities in an increasingly dangerous world. We must also push back against the radical Marxist ideology that is undermining the values that made America the greatest nation on earth. We must protect Florida’s farmland from overdevelopment and foreign investment groups, so we keep our food prices stable. That’s my mission: to fight for the working families of Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, restore common sense to Washington, defend our constitutional freedoms, and put America first.”
The CD 22 race has potentially to be among the most competitive in Florida this election cycle. About 54.6% of voters in the district supported Trump in the 2024 election, compared to 44.1% who backed Democrat Kamala Harris. But in 2020, 51% of voters in the district supported Democrat Joe Biden even as Trump won Florida’s electoral votes statewide.
Hasdorff hopes Florida will continue shifting right.
“Florida has become ground zero for freedom in America,” Hasdorff said. “While other states expanded government control, Florida chose freedom, growth, and common sense. I am running to protect that success and deliver real results for the hardworking families, small business owners, farmers, and retirees of CD 22.”
