Susie Wiles opens up online about cancer diagnosis

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles says her cancer story is one familiar to many women.

In a social media post hours after President Donald Trump revealed her breast cancer diagnosis, the longtime Florida consultant opened up about her condition.

“Last week, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Nearly one in eight women in the United States will face this diagnosis,” she posted on X. “Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks.”

Wiles noted that she enjoys excellent access to care and a work environment where she can continue at her job while starting treatment.

“I am grateful to have an outstanding team of doctors who detected the cancer early and are guiding my care, and I am encouraged by a very good prognosis,” she wrote. “I am also deeply thankful for the support and encouragement of President Trump as I undergo treatment and continue serving in my role as White House Chief of Staff.”

Wiles managed Trump’s successful 2024 campaign for a second term as President and was subsequently named as the first female White House Chief of Staff in U.S. history.

On Monday, Trump revealed in a social media post that she was facing a health battle, but would continue her work at the White House.

“Susie Wiles is an incredible Chief of Staff, a great person, and one of the strongest people I know but, unfortunately, she has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, and has decided to take on this challenge, IMMEDIATELY, as opposed to waiting,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“She has a fantastic medical team, and her prognosis is excellent! During the treatment period, she will be spending virtually full time at the White House, which makes me, as President, very happy!”

Before her work for Trump, Wiles had a long reputation as a winning consultant in the Sunshine State, where she managed now-U.S. Sen. Rick Scott’s first campaign for Governor. She also led Gov. Ron DeSantis’ first successful statewide campaign, and co-chaired the Florida arm of Trump’s 2016 campaign along with now-Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters.

The Republican Party of Florida last year honored her as the state party’s Statesman of the Year.

Deputy White House Chief of Staff James Blair, also a Florida political campaign veteran who led the 2024 presidential campaign with Wiles, praised his boss in a separate post.

“Susie led President Trump’s team through illegitimate indictments, domestic spying by the former administration, rigged federal prosecutions, illegal law enforcement raids, general lawfare, assassination attempts and more,” he posted on X. “As with the rest, she will win this battle with grace.”
