Mbappé Tipped for Historic Golden Boot Defense

France sensation Kylian Mbappe has been projected to make history this summer by winning the World Cup Golden Boot ahead of England captain Harry Kane. The Real Madrid forward won the Golden Boot in Qatar in 2022 despite France’s World Cup final heartbreak, scoring eight goals in seven matches.

Mbappe pipped Lionel Messi to the post, both going into the final between France and Argentina on five goals. However, the Frenchman scored a hat-trick to claim the Golden Boot, although his remarkable efforts weren’t enough to get his country over the line as they lost on penalties.

Supercomputer Backs Back-to-Back Glory

Mbappe has now been tipped to win the prize again. In a supercomputer, compiled by BettingLounge, the 27-year-old has a 24.5% chance of claiming back-to-back World Cup Golden Boots, becoming a history-maker as the first person to win it more than once.

Mbappe has an expected goals projection of 6.85, with Bayern Munich striker Kane coming second with 6.12 xGP and having a 17.2% chance of winning the Golden Boot.

Elites Chase the Frontrunners

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo then follow closely behind, with xGP’s of 5.45 and 4.98 respectively in what is set to be the soccer icon’s last ever World Cups. Spain wonderkid Lamine Yamal is expected to place fifth (4.65 xGP) with Norway striker Erling Haaland behind him (4.45 xGP).

Given Norway’s status as underdogs at the World Cup, it comes as no surprise that Man City srar Haaland isn’t higher up the pecking order.

The World Cup gets underway on June 11 – with Mexico vs South Africa kicking us off at Mexico City Stadium.
