While he’s behind Vice President JD Vance and Donald Trump Jr., Gov. Ron DeSantis has reason to celebrate a new survey of Republican voters about who they like as the next presidential nominee.
And he can give special thanks to voters 65 years of age or older, as their support secured him third place.
DeSantis, who is term-limited next year, has 9% support in the latest poll from Echelon Insights.
While he’s 36 points behind Vance and 3 behind the President’s son, the spread closes among senior citizens.
With the most mature voters, DeSantis has 14% support, putting him 33 points behind the VP and 9 points ahead of Trump Jr.
The survey has worse news for the potential presidential aspirations of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is at 4% and tied with Nikki Haley.
Like DeSantis, Rubio is better off with older voters, 8% of whom back him.
The Governor keeps getting asked if he’s running again by reporters but is not responding in any detail, saying he has his “hands full” and that he’s “not thinking about anything” regarding his next political move.
President Donald Trump seems to think Rubio and Vance would be a functional ticket, one that could clear the still-evolving field of his potential successors.
“I’m not sure if anybody would run against those two. I think if they formed a group, it would be unstoppable,” the President said, according to POLITICO Playbook.
Echelon Insights polled 462 likely voters between Dec. 11 and Dec. 15.
