Scott Randolph endorses Marthaly Irizarry in Orange County Commission race

Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph is backing Marthaly Irizarry in her race for Orange County Commission.

Irizarry is one of seven candidates in the crowded 2028 race to be the next District 3 Commissioner.

“Marthaly Irizarry represents the new generation of leadership this moment demands. She has the experience, energy, and drive to deliver results. I encourage all District 3 voters to join me in supporting Marthaly Irizarry for Orange County Commissioner,” Randolph said in a statement released by Irizarry’s campaign.

Randolph previously represented Orange County in the House from 2006-2012, then was elected as the county’s Tax Collector, a position he has held ever since.

“I’m honored to have the support of Tax Collector Scott Randolph, a leader who has consistently delivered for Orange County,” Irizarry said in a statement.

“This endorsement reflects the growing momentum behind our campaign and the shared belief that it’s time for leadership that listens, works hard, and delivers real results. I will always fight for our families, support our small businesses, and ensure our community has a strong voice at the county level.”

District 3 is currently represented by Commissioner Mayra Uribe. Uribe is running this year for Orange County Mayor.

To win the four-year nonpartisan term for District 3, Irizarry is up against Nelson Betancourt, information technology expert Gus Martinez, political consultant Randy Ross, lawyer Walker J. Smith IV, former Sen. Linda Stewart and Curry Ford West Main Street District Executive Director Stephanie Ziglar.

A County Commissioner’s current annual salary is $130,262.

The 2028 District 3 race is happening as Central Florida politics are being reshaped at the city and the county level. Several longtime leaders are leaving, and the County Commission recently redrew district boundaries to add two new seats. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings is term-limited and Orlando’s longest-serving Mayor, Buddy Dyer, is not seeking re-election.

Orange County Commission races are also happening this year in Districts 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8.
