Ruth’s List Florida is backing three Democratic women in local races in Sarasota and Palm Beach counties, adding to what the group calls a growing slate of “pro-choice Democratic women” running across the state.
The group is endorsing incumbent Sarasota City Commissioner Jen Ahearn-Koch in the city’s at-large race, former Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Rachelle Litt in the Palm Beach Gardens City Council Group 3 race, and former Palm Beach County School Board member Erica Whitfield in the race for Palm Beach County Commission District 2.
“These women embody the skill, commitment, and momentum we’re seeing from leaders across the state who are ready to fight for their communities,” Ruth’s List Florida Political Director Haleigh Hutchison said in a statement announcing the endorsements.
Ahearn-Koch is a longtime Sarasota resident and current at-large City Commissioner who has also served as Mayor and Vice Mayor. Ruth’s List highlighted her decades of community involvement and noted that she has received statewide recognition as a “Home Rule Hero,” reflecting her advocacy for local control.
Litt has lived in Palm Beach Gardens for 37 years and built a 46-year career in pharmacy. She is a former Council member and Mayor who is seeking a return to City Hall. Ruth’s List highlighted her experience in health care and local government as a key part of her pitch to voters.
Whitfield is a lifelong Floridian and public health professional who has focused on community wellness, student health initiatives, and strengthening partnerships across Palm Beach County while raising her family in Lake Worth Beach.
The organization said the three candidates reflect the kind of experienced candidates it wants to help elect “up and down the ballot” as it works to build stronger communities across Florida.
“We’re proud to stand with these women as they work to build a stronger, more inclusive future for their communities-and for Florida,” Hutchison said.
