Congressional candidate Robin Peguero is building a larger campaign team as he seeks to take on Republican U.S. Rep. María Elvira Salazar.
The Miami Democrat just announced several hires to his leadership team. That most notably includes naming Abia Khan as Campaign Manager.
Other hires include media strategists Rosy Gonzalez Speers and Josh Wolf of AL Media; direct mail strategists Dylan Sumner and Emily Maercklein of Deliver Strategies; pollsters Michelle Mayorga and Ana Iparraguirre of GBAO Strategies; and general consultant James Cersonsk of Nineteen Sixty Campaigns
“I’m ready to get to work,” Peguero said. “Unseating María Elvira Salazar will take a fighter, and the people of Miami deserve a Democratic nominee who is ready for that fight. Not only have we built a massive fundraising lead with over 5,000 donors, we’ve put together a battle-tested team who have delivered victories in the most competitive races across the country and in Florida. We’re in this race to fight and win.”
Peguero notably still has a Democratic Primary to win before he can face Salazar, a three-term incumbent being targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
He faces Richard Lamondin for the Democratic nomination, and former CBS Miami journalist Eliott Rodriguez has started to explore a run as well.
Peguero’s campaign has earned a number of endorsements, including from U.S. Rep. Los Frankel, a West Palm Beach Democrat.
“We can flip this seat and change the trajectory of South Florida with Robin Peguero,” Frankel said. “As a prosecutor and educator, Robin has a proven record of fighting for affordability and public safety. And as a first-generation Latino leader, he is uniquely positioned to connect with voters. I am proud to endorse Robin and to get to work on his behalf.”
Peguero also has support from former U.S. Rep. Donna Shalala, the Democrat unseated by Salazar in 2020.
“We have in Miami an absolutely first-rate candidate,” Shalala said. “We can’t be represented by anyone except a classy, smart, able, well-qualified candidate. I’m proud to endorse him. I know he’s going to go all the way.”
