Two of Florida’s leading conservatives are teaming up on an effort to memorialize one of the lions of the Right, who was assassinated last week.
U.S. Sen. Rick Scott and U.S. Rep. Jimmy Patronis seek to make Oct. 14 a National Day of Remembrance to honor Charlie Kirk, who was slain while speaking to students in Utah at a university.
Scott, who was a weekly guest on Kirk’s television show in recent months, envisions the day as one “to come together, pray, and celebrate Charlie’s impact on the nation.”
“Charlie was a magnetic leader, a loving father and husband, and a friend and inspiration to so many. His loss is devastating, and I’ll always cherish the friendship I had with him,” Scott said.
”Charlie loved our nation and its founding principles and believed deeply in his faith, in his family, and in the beauty of ideas and discussion. He lived with purpose and conviction, never shying away from hard truths and hard conversations, and always believing that the strength of our ideas and our faith could bring people together. Charlie worked to make our nation a better place in his 31 years before he was lost in an evil act of political violence, and he will leave a lasting legacy on our nation.”
Choosing Oct. 14 is no coincidence. Had Kirk lived as he should have, he would have been 32 that day.
“Charlie Kirk’s influence reached far beyond politics. He was a fearless defender of faith, freedom, and the principles that make America great, inspiring young people to lead with courage and conviction,” Patronis said.
”On campuses nationwide, he showed that tough conversations could be met with respect and charisma. A National Day of Remembrance will carry his legacy forward, inspiring future generations to speak boldly for freedom.”
