Rays Farm System Gets High Marks in MLB Pipeline Midseason Rankings
MLB Pipeline released its midseason farm system rankings this week, and the Tampa Bay Rays earned one of the biggest jumps in baseball. The Rays climbed from No. 10 entering the season to No. 2 overall, a surge driven by a strong Draft class, key prospect acquisitions and continued development throughout the organization. The rankings were compiled by MLB.com’s prospect team of Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Sam Dykstra.
Emerson Headlines a Recharged System
The biggest addition came in July, when Tampa Bay selected Grady Emerson with the second pick in the MLB Draft. Emerson, widely regarded as the No. 1 prospect in the class, immediately became one of the most impactful talents in the Minor Leagues. His arrival, combined with the Rays’ already deep system, pushed Tampa Bay near the top of MLB Pipeline’s updated list.
The Rays’ rise also reflects the organization’s ability to consistently identify and develop talent. Even as players graduate to the big leagues or move in trades, Tampa Bay continues to replenish its pipeline with high‑ceiling prospects who fit the club’s long‑term model.
Dodgers Still No. 1, Giants Make a Leap
The Dodgers remain the No. 1 farm system despite trading away two Top 100 prospects to acquire Tarik Skubal. Los Angeles still boasts six Top 100 players, tied for the most in baseball. The Giants made one of the largest jumps, climbing from No. 19 to No. 5 thanks to a more balanced system and the addition of fourth‑overall pick Jackson Flora.
Baltimore also moved up, landing at No. 7 after acquiring a strong prospect package in the Adley Rutschman trade. The Nationals climbed to No. 6, boosted by returns from Deadline deals and the rise of 2025 No. 1 pick Eli Willits.
Angels Finally Trending Upward
The Angels, long stuck near the bottom of MLB Pipeline’s rankings, reached No. 17 — their highest position since the rankings began in 2020. Arjun Nimmala, acquired in the José Soriano trade, instantly became their top prospect and helped elevate the system.
Rays Positioned for Sustained Success
For Tampa Bay, the No. 2 ranking reinforces what has become a defining organizational trait: elite prospect development. With Emerson joining an already strong group, the Rays now possess one of the most formidable pipelines in baseball.
