Rachel Frank launches re-election bid for Venice City Council

Rachel Frank has launched a re-election bid for the Venice City Council, emphasizing tax relief, public safety and infrastructure investment as the cornerstones of her campaign.

Frank, a longtime Venice resident whose family has lived in the area for nearly 50 years, said her campaign emphasizes fiscal conservatism and preserving Venice’s small-town character and quality of life.

She cited her role in lowering the city’s property tax rate in two of the past three years, her support for police, fire and emergency medical services, and her backing of infrastructure projects as examples of action taken to improve residents’ quality of life. She is currently unopposed in the race.

“Fiscal conservatism isn’t just about lowering taxes,” Frank said in a campaign announcement. “It’s about prioritizing what matters most, funding core services, and cutting waste, just like families and retirees on fixed incomes have to do every day.”

Frank also serves on the board of Family Promise of South Sarasota County, which supports families working toward housing stability, as well as Rotary Futures, a nonprofit that helps Venice High School students access scholarships and higher education.

“Too many families and retirees are feeling squeezed,” Frank said. “I’ll stay focused on smart decisions that keep Venice affordable and ensure people can live, work, retire, and raise a family here.”

Frank was raised in Venice and attended Laurel Nokomis and Venice High School before earning a degree in political science from Sewanee: The University of the South. She is president of D-R Media, a Venice-based newspaper, concert and travel business. She and her husband, Atticus, have four children.

In addition to her City Council role, Frank was elected Republican State Committeewoman for Sarasota County in 2024.
