St. Petersburg residents are invited to a four-day public charrette meant to help design the city’s next creative neighborhood.
Hosted by St. Pete Cre8 from Nov. 17-20, the event features daily open-house style sessions from 4-7 p.m. at 855 28th Street S. The group will gather public input to shape a development framework for a planned 28-acre “Creators’ District” just west of the Warehouse Arts District.
The effort comes 100 years after John Nolen’s 1925 plan for St. Petersburg, which emphasized thoughtful, people-centered urban design. The Lafrate family, which owns the property, says it hopes to build a neighborhood rooted in creativity and collaboration where residents play a central role in shaping it “from the ground up.”
Attendees are invited to share ideas, react to early concepts, and collaborate with planners, artists and project partners on the effort. The event features interactive workshops with guided design activities, live music, chef pop-ups and artist showcases.
The sessions are free and open to all. The event offers free parking at a lot adjacent to 28th Street South “just beyond the wall” that is visible upon entrance. It is also easily accessible by walking or bicycling down the Pinellas Trail, which is located one block north of the entrance. Anybody using public transit can use No. 7 or No. 9 bus lines to reach the property.
