The drive for sustainability continues at Primark with the value fashion/lifestyle retailer partnering with care and repair firm The Seam to offer a same-day clothes repair and alterations service in its Manchester Market Street store.

This addition builds on the fast fashion retailer’s ongoing customer offer of Love It For Longer repair workshops and online tutorials, allowing customers to repair clothes at home.

The latest service, available at the store every Friday until 19 December, can be accessed by booking an appointment online at Eventbrite, although the retailer noted that walk-ins were welcome, subject to availability.

At their appointment, customers will meet The Seam maker, discuss their garment, and leave it for 20-30 minutes, or return later in the day. The item will then be repaired and ready to collect.

Prices start from £3 to £10 for simple services, with Primark subsidising the cost “make it more affordable”.

Primarks says the scheme comes as it cites the face that “42% of people admit to throwing away clothes they would’ve liked to have kept because they couldn’t find a way to get them repaired”, according to environmental charity WRAP.

Some 24% also also said that the cost of repairs was a major reason they chose not to fix their clothes.

Primark product longevity lead Vicki Swain said: “We want to make simple clothing repairs and alterations easier to access and more affordable for our customers and we’re excited to see what this partnership with The Seam will bring to local shoppers in Manchester.”
