Poll shows Ron DeSantis’ 2028 hopes may be alive … especially with ‘liberal’ Republicans and Kamala Harris voters

The road to the White House isn’t completely obstructed.

Though some 2028 presidential surveys are bad news for Gov. Ron DeSantis, other polls paint a prettier picture.

According to Overton Insights, DeSantis is in a strong third place with double-digit support in their projection of the GOP nomination fight.

Vice President JD Vance leads the hypothetical field with 34% of the vote, followed by Donald Trump Jr. at 22%.

However, DeSantis’ 12% puts him ahead of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (8%), Secretary of State Marco Rubio (7%) and former U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley (5%).

That’s far better than the 2% support DeSantis had in the latest survey from Emerson College.

Crosstabs reveal that DeSantis actually does best with a small subset of respondents self-identifying as “liberal” Republicans.

He has 18% support among them, compared to 13% with conservatives and 11% with moderates.

DeSantis also gets 11% of the sliver of Republicans who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024, which puts him second among that cohort behind Haley’s 34%.

In contrast, Rubio is the choice of 9% of conservatives, 3% of moderates and no liberals.

President Donald Trump has suggested that a Vance-Rubio ticket could be “unstoppable.”

“The Vice President is great. Marco’s great. I’m not sure if anybody would run against those two,” he said last month.

Overton polled 1,200 registered voters, 444 of them Republicans, between Oct. 27 and 29.

The pollster’s model has historically favored DeSantis; he was also in double digits in July.
