Poundland has updated on its store closures plan and the good news is that 11 of the locations earmarked to shut will stay open for now.

The business had planned to close 68 stores and 57 have already shut with more having been due to close at the end of this month. Those staying open include Irvine’s Rivergate Centre, Brighton (London Road), Anniesland (Great Western Road) and Whitby.
MD Barry Williams didn’t specifically address the change of heart but said: “We’re determined to deliver a simpler, more focused Poundland that keeps its promise of amazing value to customers. We appreciate the support we’ve had from suppliers, landlords and other partners who’ve now all been fully briefed on our plans to get us back on track… [but] there is much work to do.”
The company, which sells general merchandise, fashion, beauty and foods, has been refocusing on its founding principle of ultra-cheap pricing and simple pricing and this will be rolled out across its estate in the months ahead after a pilot programme.
Williams added: “Customers have told us loud and clear during these pilots that they will back a simpler, more focused Poundland that keeps its promise of amazing value.
“We’ve heard them, and the clear success of our pilot is why I’m confident that a Poundland that’s focused on the simple value our customers expect, has a bright future.”
