Florida Politics publisher Peter Schorsch has launched a super PAC aimed at educating the public about now-congressional candidate Anthony Sabatini.
Schorsch filed paperwork Wednesday to open the Stop Sabatini Super PAC, which will target the Lake County Republican.
“Simply put, Sabatini is unfit to serve in any elected office, let alone as a United States Representative,” Schorsch said.
“His entire career is plagued by scandal, including once dressing in Black face and plagiarizing a college thesis using Wikipedia. Meanwhile, he has also faced a number of failures as a lawyer, including being fired from one municipality and rejected by another.”
The announcement came a day after Sabatini, a Lake County Commissioner, announced he was running to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster.
Many of those scandals have been covered by Florida Politics, particularly during his turbulent tenure in the Florida Legislature, including his speech at a nationalist convention in Orlando, his dismissal as City Attorney in Treasure Island, and his recent rejection as a member of the Lake County Republican Party he once chaired.
Sabatini has also evolved from a far-right voice and loyalist to President Donald Trump to a critic of the President associating with the fringe voices in the party.
“Floridians deserve better representation in Congress than a failed lawyer who spends more time fighting his own party than delivering real results. He’s anti-Trump, anti-Republican and anti-any decent human being,” Schorsch said. “I’m creating this PAC because Anthony Sabatini is dangerous, and he must never be allowed to serve in Congress or anywhere else.”
Within the first 24 hours of his campaign, Sabatini announced $100,000 in fundraising. He announced that less than 24 hours after Webster announced his own retirement.
The venture is not a moneymaking one for Schorsch, who said he will take a salary of just $1 to administer the entity. It will start accepting donations Thursday.
Schorsch said his super PAC will try to reach voters in Florida’s 11th Congressional District to remind them of the “myriad ways Sabatini has failed his constituents and his own political party.”
