Perfume Shop continues ambitious opening drive with greenest store yet

Barely a month goes by without news of one or more openings and upgrades by The Perfume Shop and it has just opened its greenest store to date, debuting at the Cotswolds Designer Outlet shopping destination.

Marking the fragrance retailer’s 33rd birthday year, the store features a new layout and upgraded services including a digital screen, fragrance consultations, complimentary gift wrapping with a personalised ribbon machine, and a recycling service where customers can drop off used perfume bottles to receive 15% off their next purchase.

On opening day, the retailer also offered a free bottle of fragrance to the first 15 customers with any purchase over £80.

And those green elements? It said energy efficiency is at the heart of the new store’s design (100% renewable via wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal) while all lighting is 100% LED. A smart Building Management System (BMS) automates lighting and HVAC control, helping to reduce unnecessary energy use.

Additional features such as motion-sensor lighting in back-of-house areas and a last-man-out switch help prevent energy waste. The store also incorporates Panasonic HVAC technology with thermos screen integration, which contributes to wider CO reduction strategy.

Meanwhile, as the retailer continues its expansion programme opening new stores and experiential counters across the UK while re-fitting existing stores, eco is also key.

It said a “significant portion” of store fit-outs use recycled and sustainable materials throughout, including shopfloor sustainable furniture suites and worktops made from recycled fridges, while acrylic elements feature Greencast (a recycled acrylic alternative).

Warehousing also includes  ceiling tiles with recycled content and 100% recyclable flooring and shelving.

Michelle Fellows, Perfume Shop’s People, Sustainability and Development director, said: “Our greenest store to date [is] proof that sustainability and beauty can go hand in hand. A huge amount of thought and care has gone into every detail.”
