Palm Beach County firefighters union endorses Christina Romelus for School Board

A first responders union is getting behind former Boynton Beach Commissioner Christina Romelus’ campaign for the Palm Beach County School Board.

Professional Firefighters/Paramedics of Palm Beach County Local 2928 just endorsed Romelus, who is running to succeed District 4 School Board member Erica Whitfield.

“Firefighters and paramedics see firsthand how critical prevention, preparedness, and strong community partnerships are to keeping the children in our community safe,” said Mike O’Brien, the union’s First Legislative Vice President.

“Christina Romelus understands that school safety goes beyond buildings — it’s about communication, trust, and making sure adults are equipped to respond when it matters most. That’s why we’re proud to endorse Christina as our next Member of the Palm Beach County School Board.”

The endorsement adds to another Romelus notched from abortion rights group Ruth’s List Florida.

Romelus, a former educator who today runs a government affairs firm called PolitiCALM, said the union endorsements “means so much because it comes from professionals who know what preparedness and accountability look like in real life.”

“I’m deeply honored to earn the endorsement of the firefighters and paramedics who put their lives on the line for our community every day. Being married to a firefighter, I see that sacrifice up close, and that perspective stays with me in every leadership role I take,” she said. “As a mother, an educator, and a public servant I believe our schools must be places where children are not only challenged academically, but truly safe and supported.”

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and raised in Palm Beach County, Romelus made history in 2016 as the youngest person elected to the Boynton Beach City Commission. She later served as Vice Mayor. Her work history includes time as a nurse and professor, including a six-year stint teaching anatomy and physiology at Palm Beach State College.

She holds a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Barry University and a bachelor’s from the University of Miami.

So far, one other person has filed to run in District 4: Daniel Zapata, a private school administrator who ran for House District 89 in 2024.
