Starting life over with a big move to a new city can be challenging, but those looking for a personal reboot would be wise to look to Florida.
Both Orlando and Tallahassee are among the best places in America to relocate, according to a new study conducted by FinanceBuzz, a Florida auto insurance quote firm. The study analyzed data from the 75 largest cities in the U.S. to determine its list. The two Sunshine State cities were both among the top 20 for new beginnings.
To compile the rankings, FinanceBuzz analysts measured elements such as peer population, lifestyle, employment and income, social scenes, and housing. Those factors were used to constitute an overall score.
St. Louis was ranked first with a score of 68.5. That was followed by Cincinnati at No. 2 and Lincoln, Nebraska, at No. 3.
No Florida city made the top 10. But Orlando came in 13th with a score of 60.7. Tallahassee followed at No. 14 with a score of 59.3.
On the flip side, California dominated the list of worst cities to start over in America. Five out of the 10 worst U.S. cities to make a fresh start were located in the Pacific Coast state. Los Angeles came in second to last with a 29.2 score, behind only New York, which scored a 27.7.
Jacksonville was ranked the 10th-worst city to relocate, with a score of 45.5.
“Making friends and finding romantic partners in Jacksonville may prove challenging for young people starting over. Just 19.2% of the city’s population is aged 19 to 34, the seventh-lowest rate in the country and Jacksonville has the 10th-smallest percentage of single residents of any city,” FinanceBuzz analysts said.
Miami didn’t fare much better. The South Florida hub was ranked the 20th-worst city in the country to start over, with a score of 47.8.
