M&S has appointed former New Look exec Elaine Cartwright as its new Stores director of Innovation and Implementation. She joins this month and will report directly to Jayne Wall, director of M&S Central Operations.

As the retailer continues to strengthen its retail offer via a £300 million store investment programme, its retail leadership team is also being bolstered and Cartwright’s role and experience within the leadership team will be important.

She joins M&S after more than 12 years at New Look, where she held a range of senior positions, most recently retail director, heading its UK and Republic of Ireland store estate.

Her earlier career was spent mostly in store operations and transformation roles, including managing River Island’s London, Oxford Street, flagship store.

Wall said: “Elaine will help us raise the bar through innovating the retail operating model and transforming customer solutions, helping us to offer exceptional service all day, every day, to every customer.”

Behind the scenes, M&S has seen major names also joining this month. It includes former CEO of Asda, Roger Burnley and Sean Doyle, the current chairman & chief executive of British Airways, joining the board on the same  day.
