U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn publicly acknowledged working with President Donald Trump’s medical team. But he declined to discuss further details about his personal health.
The Panama City Republican posted a video on X from outside the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, in which he acknowledged recent health challenges.
“It’s St Patrick’s Day 2026 here at the Capitol, and I’m fortunate to be back, lucky to be here,” he said. He then waved a walking stick in the air.
“I’m looking forward to serving people of the 2nd District of Florida, with my shillelagh or without it. But we’re doing okay.”
He posted the video a day after President Donald Trump, in a Washington news conference, brought up medical assistance he helped Dunn obtain. At the event alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson, Trump said Dunn faced a dire health diagnosis and could be “dead by June” absent medical attention.
Trump said after learning of Dunn’s condition, he sent White House doctors to see him. Ho ultimately performed a two-hour operation on the Congressman.
“It was a long operation,” Trump said. “They gave him more stents and more of everything that you could have. I think he’s got everything that you could possibly have. And they called up, they said, ‘Sure, I think he’ll be fine.’ I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding.’ He said, ‘I think he’ll be fine.’”
Dunn’s video appeared with the caption “Feeling extra lucky to be here working in Washington this St. Patrick’s Day thanks to the generosity of (President Trump) and his great medical team.”
Johnson noted at the news conference that none of the medical information had been made public.
Dunn’s office has declined to publicly address speculation around his health, which turned up after he announced he would not seek another term in Congress in November and ratcheted further when Johnson reportedly informed GOP donors that Dunn faced a “terminal” diagnosis.
Of note, Dunn’s office hours before he posted the video declined a request to comment on Trump’s remarks. A spokesperson said the Congressman would not discuss personal matters, including his health, but stressed he has continued a normal work schedule, including Committee hearings.
