An American designer had more than 1 million euros worth of jewellery stolen from the residence where he was staying on France’s Côte d’Azur, according to multiple sources on Wednesday.

Chris Aire, whose designs have been worn by stars such as Naomi Campbell and who has a partnership with basketball star LeBron James, reported to police on Tuesday that his jewellery had been stolen from a furnished holiday rental in Villefranche-sur-Mer, near Nice, according to a police source.

Some €6,000 in cash was also stolen.

An investigation into aggravated theft has been assigned to the Nice judicial police, public prosecutor Damien Martinelli told AFP, specifying that the case involves “non-violent burglary”.
