Maitland voters will pick next Seat 2 Councilman in Tuesday’s election

Maitland voters will decide the next City Councilman for Seat 2 on Tuesday.

Keith Givens is facing Alexander Trauger in the race. Incumbent Vice Chair Vance Guthrie is not running for re-election.

Council member Bill Randolph already won re-election in Seat 4 with no opposition.

Located north of Orlando, Maitland is home to a thriving arts and restaurant scene. The Orange County city is home to about 20,000 people.

Both Givens and Trauger said they have the background and experience to get elected.

Givens argued he has the skills to protect Maitland from “complex financial and security issues,” according to his campaign website.

“He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner, ensuring he can bring expert oversight to our city’s budget and contracts,” his website said.

“Keith dedicated nearly three decades to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), earning a reputation as a trusted investigator who tackled the nation’s most critical threats. His FBI work focused on violent crime, public corruption, white-collar crime, and healthcare fraud. This experience will help protect our city from misuse of public funds and maintain ethical governance.”

Currently, Givens runs a consulting firm specializing in private investigation, financial fraud and cybersecurity.

Trauger said he is running “to bring a new perspective to City Hall — one that values innovation, respects your voice, and makes decisions based on transparency, data, and long-term planning.”

His career is in transportation planning and engineering. He earned a Master’s in Public Administration with a focus on regional planning and public policy from the University of Central Florida, according to his website.

“He’s served on advisory boards at every level — local, state, and national — covering parks and recreation, community redevelopment, and transportation research,” his campaign website said. “His experience spans both public and private sectors, giving him a balanced perspective he’ll bring to Maitland.”

The polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
