A warrant was briefly issued for the arrest of a Republican congressional candidate in Palm Beach County.

Deborah Alaimy, one of the GOP candidates challenging U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, was cited by Palm Beach police on Oct. 31, Halloween, for driving on a suspended driver’s license. The ticket required a court appearance for the Jupiter Republican, but she did not appear on Nov. 12 as required. A judge then issued a bench warrant for her arrest and set her bond at $2,000.

Adaimy was sent a court letter notifying her of the warrant two days later. Alaimy’s attorney, Michael Somera, spoke with the State Attorney’s Office and motioned on Nov. 14 to recall the warrant as Alaimy waived a right to a speedy trial.

The same day, a judge recalled the warrant for Alaimy and set a new arraignment date for Dec. 10.

This isn’t the first time the candidate has faced scrutiny in traffic court. The State Attorney’s Office dropped another charge of driving on a suspended license in July after Alaimy entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement to pay $100 and undergo 25 community service hours. That came after being stopped by Juno Beach police and being cited for driving while suspended. She was cited for the same offense by Jupiter Police in August 2022, but a judge dismissed the charge in October of that year. Days before that ticket, she had been fined $166 for running a red light, but challenged it in court and had the matter dismissed.

In January of 2022, she was ticketed $281 for driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone by North Palm Beach Police, and briefly had her license suspended afterward. But that suspension was cleared after she attended driving school.

Alaimy, this year, is running for Congress and, through September, has raised almost $80,000, with more than $50,000 in cash on hand. She faces Ana Medvedeva, who closed the quarter with nearly $130,000 in the bank, in a Republican Primary next year, with the winner likely facing Frankel, a West Palm Beach Democrat.
